More than 250 Singaporeans and foreign race enthusiasts skated, swam, cycled and ran their way into the record books yesterday to become the inaugural batch of quadathletes in Singapore's first quadathlon.
Unlike many international quadathlons, participants had to in-line skate for 12km as part of the race, instead of kayaking or canoeing.
In addition to skating, they also had to brave a 500m swim in the open sea, cycle 20km and run 6km. The 38.5km event was held at Changi Beach Park and organised by Safra Tampines.
The champion of the men's open category, Pascal Aeschlimann, a 35-year-old area manager from Switzerland, said: "I think most participants experienced difficulty in the skating leg. But overall, it was a race with a good combination of four disciplines."
He finished the race in a time of 1 hour 40 minutes and 57 seconds.
The winner of the female category was Theresa Marie Soh, 36. The Canadian in-line skating and fitness instructor finished in a time of 1 hour 55 minutes and 54 seconds.
Other categories in the quadathlon were the youth mixed relay, women's relay, men's relay and the corporate mixed relay.
