MANILA, PHILIPPINES - Two Filipino police officers serving with the UN peacekeeping mission in Kosovo were among dozens hurt in violence in its volatile northern region, Manila's foreign department said Tuesday.

The pair "were injured in the riots that came shortly after UN and NATO peackeepers stormed a UN court that was seized last week by Kosovo-Serbs," the department said.

It said Manila's envoy to the UN Hilario Davide was closely monitoring the situation and had been in touch with the 40-man Philippine police contingent.

"The two officers, who sustained bruises and other injuries, were brought to a UN hospital where they are reported to be in a stable condition," the department said in a statement.

UN and NATO peackeepers stormed the court, which was taken over last Friday by Serbs who were protesting the unilateral declaration of Kosovo's independence, triggering violence.
