Li asks Susilo to resolve differences after Olympics
Thu, Apr 10, 2008
The Straits Times

LET us resolve our differences after the Beijing Olympics in August.

That is national paddler Li Jiawei's call to her estranged former fiance, national shuttler Ronald Susilo.

The pair, once the golden couple of Singapore sport, are locked in a dispute over money.

The Sunday Times reported that the badminton star was considering legal action against her to recover some $50,000 to $100,000.

Susilo claimed he contributed the amount to buy a car and condominium when they were engaged.

The pair ended their 51/2-year relationship in January.

Li, 24, told MediaCorp's television news last night: 'I want to win a medal for Singapore.

'Every month, I have several competitions, I don't have time to resolve the problem now.

'I will try not to be distracted but, of course, it will affect me. If Ronald can resolve it after the Games, I can do the same.'

The Beijing Olympics takes place from Aug 8-24.

The women's table tennis team, boasting three players in the world's top 12, including national captain Li, are fancied to end the Republic's 48-year barren run in the Olympics.

Susilo, 28, declined an on-camera interview.

However, he told the TV station that he is preparing for a competition in Malaysia next week - the Yonex Sunrise Badminton Asia Championship in Johor Baru - and will attend to the matter only after the tournament.
