Malaysians in Indonesia told to be extra careful after protests

JOHOR BARU - Over 6,000 Malaysian students in Indonesia have been told to be vigilant and extra careful in the wake of anti-Malaysian protests initiated by the Indonesian nationalist group People's Bastion for Democracy (Bendera).

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the ministry had issued the directive to students via the Malaysian Student Affairs Department in Jakarta.

"They are also reminded to go out in groups and not participate in public gatherings.

"The ministry is monitoring the situation and so far there have been no reports of our students being victimised by protesters," he told reporters after presenting aid to low-income families and single mothers here yesterday.

Commenting on the safety of Malaysians, especially of students, due to Bendera's threat to "sweep" and deport Malaysians in Jakarta,
