HONG KONG (AFP) - Hong Kong and Shanghai stocks rose Monday, following gains on Wall Street with mining shares and property firms higher, dealers said.

In Hong Kong the benchmark Hang Seng Index gained 1.97 percent, or 408.9 points, to close at 21,196.87.

Turnover was HK$64.32 billion (S$11.62 billion).

Chinese shares closed up 0.73 percent as mining stocks led the gains on hopes for better corporate earnings while property firms rose on bargain-hunting, dealers said.

The Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares, was up 22.17 points at 3,053.23 on turnover of 92.8 billion yuan (S$19.06 billion).
