Stars and fans rock out for pandas

SINGAPORE - Wavehouse Sentosa turned black and white yesterday as panda lovers decked in the animal's trademark colours packed the venue for Panda Rock Out.

UK pop star Cher Lloyd, American singer/songwriter Juliet Simms, and Singaporean labels Dresstronomy and DEPRESSION were among the artistes and designers performing at the concert and fashion show to support panda conservation and Chengdu Pambassador 2012.

Fans began arriving at 5am on Saturday morning, and by 4pm, more than 1,000 people had already joined the snaking queue.

Cher Lloyd, who headlined the event, thrilled the packed crowd by performing her hit single Swagger Jagger. Juliet Simms performed several acoustic numbers to rousing applause.

While Cher Lloyd and Juliet Simms performed, black and white designs from local fashion labels DEPRESSION and Dresstronomy were showcased on the adjacent runway.

DEPRESSION showcased previously unseen looks from an upcoming collection, a highlight of which was a specially created panda-inspired unisex top.

Other highlights of the evening included a performance by local indie sensation the Great Spy Experiment, tunes by DJ Enferno and DJ Daniel Yeo, and interviews by HOTFM91.3 DJs Cheryl Miles and Adam Yeo with the Chengdu Pambassador semi-finalists.
