Veterans of the Singapore law scene on Monday toured a new virtual court that will give the younger generation a taste of how the legal profession works.

Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong led the team of senior figures as they looked around the facility - which will allow students to play various roles including judge, lawyer and defendant.

Launched Monday, The Learning Court is targeted at students aged 13 to 18, and aims to help them understand how the judiciary operates.

It also features information kiosks and exhibition panels to shed light on legal proceedings.

It is part of an ongoing Supreme Court initiative to improve its public education and outreach programmes.

Chief Justice Chan said that The Learning Court will "foster a better understanding of court procedures and processes".

He added that it creates "a virtual space where the court meets the classroom".
