Drivers should be warned before they enter pubs
Thu, Jan 24, 2008
my paper

I STRONGLY support the idea of deploying more roadblocks in locations near entertainment outlets.

This would help reduce the number of drink drivers who endanger the lives of other road users as well as themselves.

Entertainment outlets can do their part by putting up more warnings on drink driving at their club premises, either in the washrooms or near the bar area.

The clubs' bartenders and managers could also ask their drunk patrons to take public transport instead of driving themselves home.

It would be good if clubbers are reminded about the dangers of drink driving even before they make their way into the club.

I can understand that going out is about making merry and letting your hair loose, but clubbers must think of others too.

There are print and TV advertisements on drink driving and I hope the public will not see them as just another advertisement.

The Traffic Police is trying its best to save lives but the public must also play their part.

If you want to drink and have fun, then don't drive.

Or, go with someone who does not drink so that he or she can be the designated driver.
