THE writer of the letter "Ban loud music in MRT trains" (my paper, May 14) suggested that SMRT should add another sticker in the cabin to prohibit the playing of loud music openly, along with the "No Eating" sticker.
If such ungracious and uncultured people refused to lower the music volume when a fellow commuter asked them to do so, would a "silent" sticker work? My suggestion is: Don't sweat the small stuff.
Have pity on these people rather than be offended by them. If they seem to enjoy listening to grainy music from a crackling set of speakers on their mobile phone, then they definitely do not know how to enjoy music. Let them look ridiculous in public if they choose to.
If we take offence at all the things that inconsiderate people do, then our public transport system would be the most colourful in the world - with signs plastered all over the wall urging people to speak softly on the mobile phone, to move to the rear of the bus or the centre of the train cabin, as well as not to treat the adjacent passenger's shoulder as a pillow.
If we encounter immature people who are incapable of displaying some level of consideration for others, then we should just pity these fellows.
