GIOVANI dos Santos marked his first appearance in a Tottenham shirt with two goals in an 8-0 friendly win over Spanish side Tavernes. The summer arrival from Barcelona grabbed a brace in the second half, with Aaron Lennon, Tomas Pekhart (2), Jamie O'Hara (2) and Steed Malbranque also getting on the scoresheet. Spurs coach Juande Ramos elected to start each half with a different line-up, with the Spanish outfit providing stiff resistance in the first period. Darren Bent hit the post and headed just wide, Benoit Assou-Ekotto fired just over and Jermaine Jenas saw a volley saved before Aaron Lennon headed Spurs into the lead in the 28th minute. Another recent signing, John Bostock, provided the cross which led to the only goal of the first half. But it was the 19-year-old Mexican Giovani who stole the show with his second half display. After Pekhart doubled Spurs' advantage, Giovani got on the act with a cheeky goal from a tight angle. Czech striker Pekhart then found the target again, before Giovani scored his second from close range. Malbranque then made it six in the 77th minute. It was then left to O'Hara to round off the night with two late goals; the second, a curling shot from the edge of the penalty box. 'It's good for me, a great start,' said Giovani after the match. 'It's also good for the team and we're all happy with how it went.' Assistant coach Gus Poyet echoed these sentiments: 'The players had 45 minutes each, we've no injuries and it was a good win - that's good news for everyone.' Wire Services
