JUST when I thought I had a decent run going during the World Cup Qualifiers, Wigan's Titus Bramble burst my bubble on Saturday. For those of you who don't know who Bramble is, he is one helpful defender, always on the look-out for opponents needing a hand.
Against Sunderland, he used his head though, and that was to put the ball into his own net. That guy is fast gaining legendary status. And I thought my money was safe by backing Wigan to win. I was half-right with my prediction though. Amr Zaki scored. But it was too late.
Sunderland won a point without scoring. Wigan dropped two points by scoring both the goals. Wish I could see the funny side of it.
ERIC DING:
MY BEST bet was on Arsenal to beat Blackburn and I'm delighted that the Gunners not only clinched victory but also put up a five-star display at Ewood Park.
To be honest, I was rather surprised that Blackburn didn't even put up a decent fight despite fielding a strong line-up. In fact, I knew that the winnings were coming my way after seeing the Gunners go into the break with a 2-0 lead. They were cruising.
The 4-0 result was clearly justified and my only regret was not having a flutter on the 1/2 goal ticket. On hindsight, I should have had more confidence in Arsene Wenger's men.
BRIAN MILLER:
I TOLD you not to let 'little things' distract you at the betting shop, and one of those little things I mentioned was Robinho. I said he wasn't going to turn Man City's fortunes around. He didn't.
I'm happy I listened to myself and had some money on Chelsea, because Robinho's presence didn't make City a better team and it didn't make Chelsea even a little bit wanting. What can I say about Man City? Well, their effort impressed, their football did not.
I'm only annoyed I didn't have anything on Arsenal - after saying that they would win, 'but not through a Theo Walcott hat-trick'. Well, there was a hat-trick - courtesy of Emmanuel Adebayor.
