ABOVE the clouds, the odd peak stands out. Could it be Tottenham? Well, for sure, we will know tonight. Harry 'Houdini' Redknapp has been living a charmed life since his move from the south of England to White Hart Lane in late October. For now, his claim to fame has been his ability to make a mediocre side like Spurs seem competitive. How long can he continue to wave his magic wand? Like I said, we should know tonight when Spurs travel to Craven Cottage to meet those other battlers, Fulham. Could Redknapp be cruising to a bruising? And will Roy Hodgson's Fulham put a stick through their wheel and bring Spurs' ride crashing down? They are all saying the same. Somewhere along the way, Spurs' run must come to an end. I believe, this could be it. Craven Cottage is a lovely place. That cottage makes it so quaint. Yes, it has lots its own special charm. But it can be an inhospitable venue to visit if the purpose is to steal three points from the proud residents. Newcastle found that out last week and so did Bolton on 13 Sep. Granted. Both were 'small' teams. But hey, Tottenham ain't much bigger. The thing about Fulham is this. They are finally getting into stride and, while I wouldn't touch them with a 10-foot pole if they were playing just next door to the Cottage, I will always respect them at home. Indeed, Redknapp should know what they're capable of doing. On the day he took hold of the reins at Tottenham, his old team Portsmouth were held to a 1-1 draw when the Cottagers visited Fratton Park. That, after Peter Crouch had given Pompey the lead. Betting strategy Yes, while Tottenham claim to be the 'Flavour of the Month' and Redknapp's canvassing for the managerial prize, I'm going to have some money riding on Fulham who are $2.90 outsiders on the 1x2. Anyway, if you're planning your betting strategy, you might want to take a long, hard look at the points and not just at the team's standings in the table. Right now six points is the difference between the seventh-placed team and the trap-door which leads to the relegation cellar. So, unlike before when you could predict with some degree of confidence that the team in, say, seventh spot would thump the team in, say, 13th spot - or thereabouts - now, it is not so simple. That's why I will steer clear of betting on West Ham versus Portsmouth. The Hammers are 14th, Pompey are ninth. But the difference is just four points. Too tight, if I may say so. Indeed, if there is one bet you can take, it's this. You can bet on both teams making a fight for the points. Same too for Newcastle (17th) versus Wigan (18th). And Blackburn (15th) versus Sunderland (19th). There's hardly elbow room to manoeuvre. So this is the tip: Don't bet. If you must, then go for the clear-cut matches with clear-cut winners. Like Chelsea ($1.75 on the 1/2 Goal) to beat West Brom - that's first against last - and Manchester United ($2 on the 1/2 Goal) beating Stoke at minus-2.5 goals. These are bread and butter bets and you won't be able to retire on your winnings. But, sure as ever, you will make enough to fight another day.
