NATIONAL golfers Quincy Quek and the US-based Choo Tze Huang have been selected to represent Singapore at the South-east Asia Games in Laos in December. Subject to approval from the Singapore National Olympic Council, the duo will be part of a four-man team at the biennial Games. The other two members of the team will be selected through a trial which will be conducted in the first week of August. The trial consists of seven rounds with the first five rounds held at Tanah Merah Country Club and Sentosa Golf Club. The Singapore Golf Association (SGA) will then add the results of the two-day 10th Singapore National Amateur Championship from 12 to 14 Aug at Warren Golf and Country Club to finalise the line-up for the SEA Games. Exempted Quek and Choo were exempted from the trial because of their excellent track records. 'The primary consideration is to choose the best players available to represent Singapore at the SEA Games,' said Peter Teo, general manager of the SGA. 'As such, we will pre-select players who have clearly demonstrated their playing abilities through their excellent track records and who have vast experience participating in major Games. 'They must also be consistently ranked high above their peers in the World Amateur Golf Ranking and the SGA Order of Merit.' The Singapore team will be out to erase the memories of 2007 when they returned home empty-handed after winning a silver and a bronze medal at the 2005 Games. The SGA has set a gold-medal target for both the individual and team events.
