Young inmate dies in prison

By Pearly Tan

IT WAS 21 days after his 21st birthday when Dinesh Raman's family got a call from prison officers.

He had been found unconscious in a cell at Changi Prison, and died later.

On his death certificate, the cause of death is stated as cardio respiratory failure, pending investigation. His family claimed that Dinesh didn't have a medical history of heart problems.

They said he was fit when he was sent to prison for breaching his probation for rioting and theft.

His family members are hoping a Coroner's Inquiry will explain how he died. That's when the results of Dinesh's post-mortem examination will be made known.
