Weather officials yesterday warned of heavy rainfall over the next 10 days for most parts of south and south-west China, where many areas were left submerged by flooding last week.
The China Meteorological Administration warned of renewed flooding and landslides.
The rain and floods have killed at least 176 people this year and left 52 missing, but the State Flood Control and Relief Headquarters said the death toll so far was significantly lower than that in previous years.
Nearly six million people have been affected by the flooding in one way or another.
China's rainy season causes havoc every year. But this year, the country has already suffered from snowstorms that paralysed much of the country, as well as last month's devastating earthquake.
This latest flooding is another major challenge for the Chinese people and their government, just weeks before the Olympic Games get under way in Beijing.
