China denies planning to invade Vietnam

HONG KONG: China has assured Vietnam that so-called 'invasion plans' against its southern neighbour posted on Chinese websites are works of individuals which have nothing to do with its government.

The plans detailing the complete military occupation of Vietnam by China, though unsourced and apparently unofficial, have alarmed Hanoi that it recently summoned senior Chinese diplomats twice to voice its concerns, reported Hong Kong's South China Morning Post (SCMP) yesterday.

The plans envisage a 31-day invasion, starting with five days of missile strikes from land, sea and air, and climaxing in an invasion involving 310,000 troops sweeping into Vietnam from China's south-western Yunnan Province and Guangxi region as well as the South China Sea.
