LAX practices at several Singapore websites have put visitors' private details, such as bank account numbers and mailing addresses, at risk.

Internet security firm Trend Micro said it has identified at least 40 Singapore websites - which it termed 'reputable' - that are guilty of security lapses.

It declined to name the sites, and would say only that they are mostly a mix of online shopping portals and community sites which 'manage sensitive user data', and that they have a large number of users.
