THE woman who received a massive overdose of chemotherapy drugs at KK Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH) this month is on the road to recovery.

Mrs Yip Poh Hung, 44, is not out of the woods, but the chairman of the hospital's medical board Kenneth Kwek said he is 'cautiously optimistic' that she will recover fully.

Her white blood cell count plummeted dangerously low a few days ago, as doctors predicted it would. This fall in the number of the cells that are the body's defence against infection can happen even without an overdose, usually in the first treatment cycle, said Associate Professor Kwek.
