A MAN was charged in court yesterday with overstating input tax in his Goods and Services Tax (GST) returns and making false entries with the intention of helping his business evade tax.

Stienberg Tan Geok Yong, 37, allegedly overstated input tax amounting to a total of $18,616 for three accounting periods in 2004 and 2005.

He is also said to have made a false entry of $1,420 in the GST return on Jan 20, 2005, and $17,456 in another return about two months later to evade tax.
