THE carpark operator at People's Park Complex in Chinatown was dealt the maximum fine of $60,000 yesterday for fire safety infringements over the blaze that broke out at the building in April.

The prosecution urged the court to impose the maximum penalty against Grand City Investment to serve as a deterrent to other would-be offenders.

A company representative pleaded guilty to having allowed the erection of 20 partitioned rooms over its parking spaces on the fifth floor without approval.
