Strict checks at airports for our own good
Mon, Jun 30, 2008
my paper
>I agree that the recent security issue at the Budget Terminal is rather appalling.

Although I have not used the terminal, I believe the security requirement at all checkpoints must be the same.

At the main airport terminals, there are several layers of checks for travellers. Staff at the check-in counter, police officers at the entrance to the immigration hall and then immigration officers will, among other things, check faces against passports.

After the Sept 11 (9/11) terrorist attacks, the US immigration department has gone to great lengths to ensure tight security at its checkpoints.

The stringent checks in the US had led to some travellers complaining about the hassle. If the officers do not do their jobs well, there could be another 9/11 attack.

Travellers should cooperate when going through such checks, and security personnel should not let our country's high standard on security drop.
