BA suspends Pakistan flights after hotel bombing

ISLAMABAD, Sept 22, 2008 (AFP) - British Airways has halted all flights to Pakistan following the bombing of the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad, a spokesman for the airline said on Monday.

"We have temporarily suspended our flight operations in Pakistan following Saturday's suicide attack," Sohail Rehman, a spokesman for British Airways in Islamabad, told AFP.

The last flight from London to Islamabad, the only destination served by the carrier in Pakistan, operated on Sunday, Rehman said.

"The situation is being reviewed by our head office in London. Right now, we are not in a position to give any date for the resumption of our operations," Rehman said.

At least 60 people were killed when a suicide attacker rammed a massive truck bomb into the gates of the five-star Marriott, which is popular with diplomats and the Pakistani elite.

At least five foreigners were among the dead, including two Americans and the Czech ambassador to Islamabad.
