SIA cuts fuel surcharge up to 21%

Singapore Airlines (SIA) announced Tuesday it will cut fuel surcharges for short and medium haul flights.

The reductions ranges from around 5 to 21 per cent and will apply to tickets issued from Wednesday, said the carrier in a news release.

The highest reduction will apply to short-haul sectors in economy class. Customers flying Economy can now expect to pay US$22 fuel surcharge for flights to South East Asian gateways.

A US$95 levy will apply for routes between Singapore and Europe, South Africa on economy class, and a US$170 surcharge for Singapore-North America routes.

For all other flights on economy, the surcharge is at US$75.

"The reduction is the third time since fuel prices began easing," said SIA.

"Despite the recent easing of jet fuel prices, collections from fuel surcharges still only partially relieve the increased expenditure on jet fuel. Prices remain volatile."
