Travel light and you pay less

By Karen Teng

YOU can now save some money on a Jetstar Asia ticket if you do not have check-in baggage.

Under the budget carrier's JetSaver Light option, passengers who have only hand baggage get a $15 discount on the one-way fare for its Asian destinations.

The airline's chief executive officer Chong Phit Lian says: "We receive a cost saving for a customer not checking in any luggage. So we believe it is only fair that a lower air fare should be passed back in return."

For all passengers with hand baggage, the weight allowance for a standard-size cabin bag has been increased to 10kg from 7kg.

Frequent traveler Laurence Wong usually uses just one bag on short holidays.

"Being a guy, I have very little to pack so most of my things can be contained in a cabin-sized bag. With the JetSaver Light fare, I now get to make the same trip I always do but at a lower cost," he says.

Passengers who want to check in their bags can continue to book their fare under the JetSaver option and be entitled to the 20kg baggage allowance.

Ms Chong says Jetstar will also remove all administrative and insurance fees from its prices.

"We're keeping fares low, simple and transparent.

"When you now book with Jetstar, you will pay only the fare plus the fixed airport taxes."
