PAMPLONA, SPAIN - A Briton and a Dane were among five people injured Monday on the last day of the running of the bulls in Pamplona in northern Spain, bringing the total number of wounded to 45, organisers said.
The 31-year-old British national was taken to hospital after he injured his collarbone from a fall or collision, while a 21-year-old Danish man hurt his scalp and bruised his calf muscle. The three other injured were Spaniards.
Of the 45 people who were injured during the eight days of the running, four were gored by a bull, compared to 14 last year, organisers said in a statement.
At least 15 of the injured are foreigners: four Americans, three British nationals and one each from Australia, Denmark, Ghana, Greece, New Zealand, Romania, South Africa and South Korea.
A 23-year-old Irishman died after he fell from a 30-metre (90-foot) high wall during the first day of the centuries-old San Fremin festival on July 6, a day before the bull runs began.
The running, the highlight of the festival, is held for eight consecutive days and features six bulls and a pack of tame steers that run from the corrals through Pamplona's old town to the bull ring, where the bulls die in the afternoon in a bullfight.
The event is broadcast live on national television. Since 1911, 14 people have been killed in the bull run, immortalised by Ernest Hemingway's 1926 novel "The Sun Also Rises". --AFP
