Five kiosks at Compass Point; Tampines Mall; Suntec City; Simei MRT Station; Pasir Ris MRT Station
Price: From $2.30 to $3.80

A subsidiary of the Old Chang Kee group, this chain opened in 2005 and now sells 2,500 hotdogs a day from its five outlets.

It offers seven varieties, including a Chicago beef hotdog and a New York chicken hotdog. Some of the sausages are available in two sizes: 80g ($2.90) or 120g ($3.80).

They are imported from Malaysia and the buns are made fresh daily.

Orange Julius

Orange Julius
Seven outlets islandwide
Price: From $2.20 to $2.60

This American chain offers six varieties of hotdogs - including the popular chilli melt, bacon and cheese, barbecue and triple cheese hotdogs.

While the sausages are made by a local supplier, the chilli is shipped directly from the United States in cans. The barbecue sauce and mustard are also from the US.

Try the chilli melt, which comes smothered with a tasty meat chilli gravy. It is for those who like their hotdogs wet and messy.

The Bratwurst Shop
B2-39C Plaza Singapura
Price: From $4.60

This little kiosk in the food basement is one of the best places here to get a hotdog.

Owner Gabriel Tin's partner owns the popular Bratwurst Shop in Melbourne's Queen Victoria Market. The sausages served here are made by a local supplier using the same Melbourne recipes.

All the sausages are stuffed full of quality Australian meat and char-grilled. Meaty and juicy, they are totally satisfying.

Each hotdog also comes with mustard and an almost over-generous heap of sauerkraut or pickled cabbage.

There are six different sausages to choose from, including the wonderful Swiss cheese, black pepper pork and chicken and mushroom.

Extra toppings like cheese, caramelised onions, lettuce and tomato, cost 20 cents more each.

These dogs are seriously good.

Mos Burger
17 outlets islandwide
Price: From $3.20 to $3.55

The Japanese fastfood chain which is famous for its rice burgers also has a hotdog range.

It offers a plain dog (with ketchup, mustard and onions, $3.20), chilli dog (with beef chilli and onions, $3.40) and spicy chilli dog (with beef chilli and jalapenos, $3.55).

The buns are lovely and soft, and the sausages have a good crunch to them. But the beef chilli is very spicy. Good for those who like things hot.

Ikea
317 Alexandra Road; 60 Tampines North Drive 2
Price: $1

It's the most unadorned hotdog in town - a sausage in a bun and free flow of ketchup, chilli sauce and mustard from giant teat-like dispensers.

But the Swedish furniture giant's two stores here sell a jaw-dropping 6,400 hotdogs on a weekday.

The chicken wieners, so meaty and crunchy, are made by a local supplier who follows Ikea's own recipe.

The buns, which are not terribly sweet, are lightly toasted so they are warm and soft. They are made fresh daily by a supplier.

In fact, the chicken wieners are among the bestsellers in the Ikea delis. A five-piece retail pack costs $3.50 each. Sadly though, the buns are not for sale.
