About Paulaner Beer
WGS2008 Official Beer Paulaner is the leading brewer from Munich, Germany and is famous worldwide for its range of exported Munich bier and freshly-brewed bier from Paulaner Brauhaus microbrewery concepts.
Paulaner, whose name first cropped up in 1634, is family owned and the leading brewery of Bavaria. It follows a philosophy of respecting and maintaining the centuries-old beer traditions of Munich and Bavaria. Paulaner is also the leader of a few official OktoberfestbierTM breweries participating in the yearly Oktoberfest in Munich.
All Paulaner beers are brewed according to the strict guidelines enshrined in the German Purity Law of 1516. So till today, its beers are brewed exclusively with natural ingredients: water, hops, yeast and malt. Today Paulaner beers are enjoyed in over 60 countries.
Special beer for World Gourmet Summit 2008
Riding on the success of Paulaner WGS Roggen Bier created last year for the World Gourmet Summit 2007, Paulander's resident brewmaster Alex Buchner has conjured a special brew called Dunkles Hefeweizen or DWB (dark wheat bier) for this years event.
DWB is an exclusive concoction available for the first time at Paulaner Brauhaus Singapore. Brewed according to the Law of Purity set in 1516, only four natural ingredients are used in the production - malt, hops, yeast and water. For DWB, four different types of malt are used - barley, pale wheat and dark wheat to achieve the rich smooth flavours.
This full-bodied, dark chestnut-brown beer boasts a lively malt aroma with a mild sweet and hoppy flavour with an alcohol content of 5.3 per cent. It makes a perfect accompaniment to hearty meals, as well as vegetarian dishes and salads.
One thousand litres of DWB has been made available only at Paulaner Brauhaus bar and restaurant since April 7. A 0.5L glass is priced at $15++.
On the character of his creation, Alex Buchner: "This beer is increasingly popular thanks to a fruitier taste and its refreshing character. Weissbier is the traditional brew drunk in Munich/Bavaria, probably the beer-capital of Germany. The special dark Hefe-Weizen following the Weissbier tradition of Paulaner was served at selected WGS events, such as the opening reception, the Champagne brunch, the Paulaner Fest and at the Paulaner Brauhaus itself. In general, Weissbier accompanies lighter dishes, such as salads, fish or light meat dishes like the traditional Munich Weisswurst, particularly well."
He is glad that Singapore's World Gourmet Summit has given Paulaner a golden opportunity to present its premium and authentic beers to diners and promote the beer traditions of Munich.
After the festival, you can still enjoy these traditions at Paulaner Brauhaus, Singapore's only German microbrewery and restaurant. It is located at 9 Raffles Boulevard, #01-01, Time@ Millenia Walk. Tel: 6883 2572.
Operating hours at the bar: 11:30am to 1am, Sunday to Thursday, 11:30am to 2am, Friday, Saturday and eve of Public Holiday
