The New Paper
Paisley & Cream

PAISLEY & Cream is a quaint little cafe sitting in a corner of The Central.

It seats about 30, if you factor in the sprinkling of tables outside. Because of the size, it is intimate and just the right place for staring lovingly into your partner's eyes.

Another plus: The place is gorgeous.

Photos of old Hollywood line the walls and a chandelier is the focal point in the room.

Royston said: "It's very cosy, very posh."

Paisley & Cream serves the usual menu of drinks and snacks.

The quality of food is above average and the prices are surprisingly reasonable, given the posh ambience.

You can have a satisfying meal for under $25 a person.

But Royston has a suggestion - more signages to direct you there. "It's a little hard to find. I had to ask around and look at the directory." So for those who need directions, it is next to the river, by the side of Coleman Bridge.

WHAT WE LIKE:

Blue & Sentimental got us all sentimental for waffles.

Justina said: "I like the after taste.

"It's crispy, yet moist." She was most impressed with the fresh blueberries that came with the dish. "It was unexpected."

Shuling added: "I like it because it was not too sweet." She was also pleased with the value.

"It's a big portion for only $8."

Royston thinks the dish didn?t even need the standard whipped cream. He said: "It's good enough on its own."

My favourite was a salad called Pastoral Symphony ($8). It is basically a spinach and mushroom salad, with a crisp dressing.

I found it most refreshing and if you?re not really hungry, this would be more than enough.

Shuling likes it too because it wasn?t oily.

Justina said: "The mushrooms were sauteed and slightly salty, and that went well with the raw spinach."

WHAT WE DISLIKED:

Another salad didn't do it for us though. The La Mer ($8) is a tuna salad. Justina said: "It was too common." I agree with her.

It wasn't memorable and it was only when I looked at my notes again that I recalled eating it!

Shuling would have preferred more ingredients.

Royston also thought the dish was "ordinary", but added: "It was not too bad though."

REVIEW IN 4 WORDS:

Pleasant, inexpensive cafe food.
