Durian delights

One vaguely pesky thing about durian puffs, crepes, cakes and muffins is this: You have to get through the other stuff before you get to the good stuff, the durian.

So when presented with the Goodwood Park Hotel's new offerings for its annual Durian Fiesta, I went straight for the dessert that had the fewest degrees of separation from the King of Fruit.

This year, it's the Durian & Brownie Chocolate Cup ($2.80 each or $16 for six pieces).

I've always been a fan of the hotel's durian mousse, made with bitter D24 durian pulp. It's rich and chunky with pulp, so you know it's not bulked up with cream.

Only a thin chocolate shell of a cup and small brownie cubes stand in your way of durian bliss. As a bonus, the chocolate works well with durian too, both being sinful and rich.

For even fewer degrees of separation, try the Durian Pudding ($3 each), another pungent, pulpy delight.

Durian Fiesta is on at the Goodwood Park Hotel Deli until July 31, tel: 6730-1786. Opening hours: 9am to 9pm daily.
