‘Cool Biz’ is in the air

Workers dressed casually walk in the Marunouchi business district of Tokyo as the "Cool Biz" campaign, aimed at cutting summertime electricity consumption, kicks off at companies and government offices Friday.

The temperature in Tokyo at 9 a.m. was 21.9 C, 4.4 degrees higher than usual. In Marunouchi, where fewer businesspeople are seen during the Golden Week holiday season, some people went without ties or wore brightly coloured jackets.
