The Royal wedding of His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik with Dk Raabi'atul 'Adawiyyah Pg Hj Bolkiah began on Sunday with the Majlis Istiadat Bersuruh Diraja or Royal marriage proposal ceremony.
A delegation from the groom visited the bride's family to declare the 31-year-old prince's intention to marry 22-year-old Dk Raabi'atul 'Adawiyyah.
The Royal marriage proposal ceremony started at Istana Nurul Iman before heading to the bride's residence at Darul Fadhl on Jalan Permaisuara.
The wedding will take place over 11 days. Meanwhile, the Media Secretariat Committee on Publication and Information said 96 journalists are expected to cover the wedding, including 21 from other countries.
Foreign media from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Germany have registered to cover the wedding, the secretariat said during a media briefing on the wedding. The secretariat said the number does not include representatives from the state broadcaster Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB) and the newspaper Pelita Brunei.
It added that media pooling to cover the wedding will be given to photojournalists and videographers only. In a statement, the secretariat said the media centre for the wedding started its operations at the Information Department's conference room (new building) on April 2.
It will operate from 8am to 10am every day except Friday. On Friday, the media centre will remain open from 8am to 11.30am and from 2pm to 10pm. Members of the public were reminded to hoist the national flag while Cheterias, Pengirans and those bestowed with titles are to hoist their respective personal flags starting April 6 until April 15.
