HA TINH - At least 13 people were killed and 28 were injured when a scaffolding at a construction site in the central Ha Tinh Province collapsed last night.
The incident happened at 8pm, when hundreds of workers were working on a 30m-tall steel scaffolding in Formosa area in Vung Ang economic zone.
Rescuers found 13 bodies at the scene of the accident, while more people were reportedly trapped under large steel bars, hindering the rescue work.
Local health authorities have deployed all human resources and necessary equipment in Ha Tinh Township and Ky Anh District, where the injured persons have been hospitalised in emergency care.
The health ministry sent five leading doctors from the Ha Noi-based Viet Duc Hospital to the central province last night, to provide medical aid to those severely injured in the accident.
The rescue work continued throughout the night, with the rescuers attempting to cut the steel bars to get the trapped victims out.
The construction site is part of the South Korean Samsung Group's project in the zone. Government inspectors had begun inspecting the project in Formosa several days ago for alleged wrongdoings.
