13 Indonesian officials test positive for drug use

Following an impromptu drug test after a mass inauguration on Jan 2, the Jakarta administration has found that 13 high-level officials tested positive for drugs.

Regional secretary Saefullah said that five of the 13 officials claimed to have taken medication the night before the drug test.

"Meanwhile, it is still being investigated whether the eight remaining officials took medication or illegal drugs.

If they are proven to have consumed illegal drugs, they will be demoted," Saefullah told reporters at City Hall in Central Jakarta on Monday.

He said that all 13 officials were echelon III officials, but declined to reveal their identities or working units. The highest ranking officials are echelon IV civil servants.
