2 dead, 1 injured after knife attack in China shopping mall

A knife attack at a shopping mall in Shanxi, China, left two dead and one severely injured on Jan 21.

State news agency Xinhua reported that a long-standing dispute between two competing tenants in the mall triggered the violent attack.

According to a report by NetEase, two women died at the scene, while a man remains in critical condition after they were slashed by the attacker with a kitchen knife.

The two deceased victims were a pair of sisters surnamed Li, aged 35 and 38. The injured man is the younger sister's husband.

Photos circulating on Chinese microblogging website Weibo showed large amounts of blood at the crime scene, while witnesses described the sight as gruesome and terrifying.

The victims received multiple slash wounds to their heads and necks, and Chinese media reported that the assailant decapitated the younger woman after slashing her neck.

The police arrested the attacker at the first level of the shopping mall on the same day.
