2 districts in Chiang Mai named disaster zones

Chiang Mai's Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department Office has declared Omkoi and Fang districts as disaster zones during the ongoing cold spell as the Meteorological Department issued a warning yesterday saying temperatures in the region would drop by about 4-7 degrees Celsius from now to Thursday.

The lowest temperature - 3 degrees - was recorded on the peak of Doi Inthanon in Chom Thong district. Chiang Mai provincial office head Patthanida Sadudee said thousands of villagers in Omkoi's six sub-districts as well as Fang's Mae Ngon and Mon Pin sub-districts had been affected, and warm clothing had been dispatched for those affected in Fang district.
