2 hurt in bomb attack on Thai police convoy

THAILAND - Two policemen - Sub-Lieutenant Chaowarat Domuser and Lance Corporal Songpol Ketkaew - were injured in a bomb attack in Narathiwat's Rangae district yesterday afternoon.

Chaowarat said they had joined a 20-strong police team from Rangae and Muang districts in a three-vehicle caravan taking three people, suspected of being involved in a December 17 valuables-snatching crime in Muang district, for interrogation at Muang Narathiwat Police Station.

Following the bomb report, police investigators, along with bomb-squad and security officers, inspected the scene on a local road in Ba-ngo Sato sub-district.

They found the victims' pick-up truck with its front severely damaged by the bomb, and its rear wheels stuck in a 1.5-metre-wide, one-meter-deep bomb crater.

Police collected the remains of a bomb in a 25kg cooking gas cylinder and found it had been detonated |by battery from behind a roadside bush.
