BEIJING - An attack on a police station and government offices in China's Xinjiang region in late July left 37 civilians and 59 "terrorists" dead, state media said on Sunday.

The official Xinhua news agency said the attack on July 28 also left 13 civilians injured.

In addition to killing 59 attackers, Xinhua said police arrested 215 others.

The attack in China's northwest Xinjiang region was first reported by state media on Tuesday, but those earlier reports did not provide details other than to say dozens of people died.
