$4.6m painting 'thrown with trash'

A painting that was sold for HK$28.8 million (S$4.6 million) on Monday at Poly Auction in Hong Kong has gone missing, with police hinting that cleaners working at the auction house may have inadvertently thrown the artwork out, Jiangsu-based Modern Express reported.

The painting, "Snowy Mountain", which was created by Chinese American artist Cui Ruzhuo in 2012, is 1.79 meters wide and 3.81 meters long. If the investigators are able to confirm that the cleaners threw the painting out with other trash, then the cleaning company will probably have to cover a major part of the insurance.
