The government has started making arrangements with India for Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's visit to the country next month, it has been learned.

His visit is aimed at reinforcing bilateral relations in security and economic sectors, government sources said.

Attention is focused on whether Abe will be able to reach an agreement with his counterpart Narendra Modi to conclude a nuclear deal that would make possible Japan's exports of nuclear power plants, observers said.

The leaders are expected to confirm close defence ties between the two Asian countries, which include the Maritime Self-Defence Force's continued participation in the Malabar joint exercises conducted annually by the US and Indian naval forces.
