Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will incorporate "remorse" over World War II in the statement which he will issue in August to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the war's end, The Yomiuri Shimbun has learned.

The prime minister will also likely refer to Japan's policy of "proactive contributions to peace" in the statement by mentioning the postwar path in which the country has contributed to the international community.

Abe will finalize the wording in the statement after receiving a report to be submitted by an expert panel that discusses the content of the statement.

He is considering releasing the statement by Aug. 14, a day before Aug. 15 - the day the war ended.
