Adrian Mattheis Bounces Back With Knockout Win In Jakarta

The “Papua Badboy” is back in the win column.

Indonesian crowd-favourite Adrian Mattheis danced his way into the arena in his hometown of Jakarta and claimed a first-round TKO victory over ONE Championship debutant Angelo Bimoadji at ONE: CONQUEST OF HEROES on Saturday, 22 September.

Garuda Fight League Champion Bimoadji looked to start the contest at the Jakarta Convention Center on the front foot, but as soon as he stepped into range, Mattheis surprised the 21-year-old with a flying guillotine attempt that “The Unicorn King” did well to escape.

Mattheis looked to have the upper hand on the ground as he progressed to side control and tried to work his way to a choke, but Bimoadji reversed positions.

He put the ONE Strawweight Indonesia Tournament Champion on his back before looking to advance position in search of a submission finish.

But after the scramble ended up with both men returning to their feet, the bout exploded into top gear, as Mattheis launched into a heavy-handed surge that won him the bout.

The “Papua Badboy” threw heavy punches as soon as the pair stood up, and a beautiful left-hook, right-uppercut combination sent Bimoadji crashing to the canvas.

A salvo of heavy ground strikes swiftly followed from the 25-year-old, forcing referee Yuji Shimada to move in to halt the contest at 2:41 of the opening round.

Mattheis’ victory puts him back in winning form after he saw his three-bout win streak halted by a Robin Catalan heel hook back at ONE: BATTLE FOR THE HEAVENS in Guangdong.

Now with a 7-5 record, including four wins from his last five outings, the Tigershark Fighting Academy product is ideally placed to make his way up the ONE Championship strawweight ladder as we head towards the end of 2018.
