Airline comes to aid of bleeding patient

Thalaimalai, a Chennai resident who had undergone a liver, pancreas and intestine transplant in June went in for a biopsy but it resulted in a tear of his intestine, which started to bleed.

With time running out and to the shock of doctors at the Apollo Hospital, the blood coagulating drug NovoSeven was not available anywhere in Chennai or neighbouring cities. When they contacted the manufacturer they were told stocks were available only in Ahmedabad.

Fortunately for them and the patient, Air Costa - which had a late night flight from the city - offered to fly it to Chennai, thereby saving the man's life.
