Anwar Ibrahim's father passes away

PETALING JAYA: The father of Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim passed away at 1.45am on Sunday, said Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

In a Facebook post, Dr Wan Azizah said that the remains of her father-in-law Datuk Ibrahim Abdul Rahman will be brought to Lot 459, Pinggir Pelangi Pagi, Country Heights, Kajang.

According to the PKR president, he is expected to be buried at Sg Ramal cemetery after Zuhur prayers.

She said that when Anwar first entered jail, his mother also died.

"I have to cancel all my programmes in Penang, and rush to Kajang," she wrote.

Anwar is currently serving a five-year prison term after a five-man bench led by Chief Justice Tun Arifin Zakaria found him guilty of having carnal intercourse with his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

On Wednesday, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia said Anwar was officially disqualified as Permatang Pauh MP as his petition for a royal pardon by his family on Feb 24 had been rejected.
