Bed-ridden woman, 26, starved to death by mother-in-law

Once a chubby fresh-faced woman from Shandong, China, a young wife was starved to the point of becoming just skin and bones all in the period of just one year.

Shandong news reported that Yang Tian Tian, 26, was ill-treated by her mother-in-law after she suffered from a condition known as brain atrophy, which is the shrinking of the brain.

According to reports, Yang was once healthy and happily married until she found out that her husband was having an affair. To her shock, her husband's mother told her off when she brought the matter up, telling her that it was normal for men to be lustful. Her mother-in-law also told her that she should be contented that she had food to eat and water to drink at home.

Failing to get a divorce, Yang tried to end her own life by swallowing some pills. She was rushed to the hospital and saved, but suffered brain atrophy as a result of the incident.

Although her mother-in-law took her home, Chinese news sources said that the bed-ridden Yang was not fed properly, much less given any care in the house.

Within a year of returning to her mother-in-law's home, Yang had gone from being a curvy woman to a state of skin and bones.

Yang's younger sister was shocked when she paid her a visit, and confronted the mother-in-law over the state Yang was in. To her horror, the elderly woman said: "The entire family has not had meat in a few months, how can we afford to care about her (Yang)".

She also refused to allow Yang to be taken to a hospital for treatment, and the helpless woman died on Aug 1.
