Biometric system launched at Indian police stations

BANGALORE, India - Police has introduced a biometric system on a pilot basis at 19 police stations to ensure transparency in their functioning.

The mandatory rule for those accused in certain cases to visit stations regularly to report their activities is not implemented properly, thus making it difficult for police to trace the criminals. With biometrics in place, the fingerprints of habitual offenders will help police track them easily.
