Bullied elephant finds new home

A young elephant, who was bullied in a Nanning zoo, has found a new home at Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo in Jiangsu province.

The zoo in Nanning, capital of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, has seven other elephants. But three of them, who were the elephant's siblings, often struck it with their trunks and took its food.

The young elephant was shipped to Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo together with 300 kilograms of apples and grass on Sunday.

The one-year-old elephant will spend at least eight years in Nanjing, and possible reside there permanently if it adjusts to the climate, local newspaper Modern Express reported.
