Cambodian woman rescued in China to arrive home Sunday

PHNOM PENH - A Cambodian woman will return home this Sunday after being rescued by Cambodian consulate in China's Guangzhou province, a senior government official said Saturday.

Heng Sokheang, from Kampong Cham's Stung Trong district, was rescued after she was cheated to get married to a Chinese man, said Koy Kuong, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

He said the Ministry and the Cambodian consulates oversea have rescued and repatriated many Cambodian women after receiving complaints from their families as well as civil society organisations.

Last Thursday and Friday, two Cambodian women -- Roeung Sreytouch from Tbong Khmom province and Chorn Sina from Kandal province -- were sent home from China.

The two were also trafficked by a mastermind to wed Chinese men in Guangzhou and Zhangxi provinces.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned the Cambodian people, especially women to not easily believe anybody who promise jobs or find foreign husbands for them.
