China landlord finds $1.2 million under the bed in vacant apartment

CHINA - A landlord was cleaning out his apartment in Chang'an County when he discovered six million yuan (around S$1.2 million) in four tight packages wrapped with tape under the bed.

According to a report on Asian Town, Ma Guangdi had been caring for the apartment on Oct 14 so that he could look for new tenants.

Together with two security guards and a cleaner, they cleared the house of furniture and electrical appliances, only to find the large packages upon moving the bed.

Mr Ma discovered bundles of notes in various denominations, from 5 to 50 yuan, and decided to call the police.

He said that he had previously rented the apartment to a man from Guangdong province, but the tenant moved away without a word in May.

Police have seized the cash and opened an investigation.
