Chinese tourists clean out pancake tower meant for charity

Around five tons of Shandong pancakes from a six-meter tall structure were looted by tourists during the opening ceremony of Mount Yi's Cultural Festival.

According to an article in CRI English, the structure had been stocked with pancakes in an effort to create the world's tallest pancake structure.

"The pancakes were expected to be donated to charity by the sponsor," said a staff member at the Cultural Festival.

However, tourists descended on the structure and swept the pancake tower clean within ten minutes.

One tourist was particularly happy to get a taste of the pancakes he had nabbed for free, adding that the Shandong pancake is a famous local snack which recently appeared on the new season of the popular television show 'A Bite of China,' a documentary series on Chinese cuisine.
