The couple who filmed a sex tape in a fitting room at a Beijing Uniqlo store seem to remember the incident quite differently from each other.

Two different stories about what happened have been told in text messages leaked by friends of both parties.

Leaked text messages revealed that the woman in the video had told a friend that it was the man's idea to film the sex tape. She also said that she had just met the man while shopping, and did not know him before they had sex.

When asked why they made the video, the woman told her friend that the man was the one who suggested it.

"Why didn't you stop him," the woman's friend asked.

"He said he wanted a souvenir," the woman replied.

Website Viralcham also published a series of text messages, allegedly sent by the man in the video to his friend.

When his friend asked him if it was "nice", the man said "it was okay".

According to the screengrabs, he also told his friend that he had sex with the woman a few times and that "her breasts are a little small".

He also recounted the incident differently from the woman, saying that she had called him into the changing room.

"She asked me to go inside and see if the clothes fit her. The moment I walked in, she started touching me. I gave in," he said.

He also told his friend that the woman had wanted to film their sex act on her phone, but she lost the same phone after a few days.

"I don't want to be famous," he said when his friend asked him if the video was an attention-seeking stunt.

On Sunday, AFP reported that Chinese police had detained five people including the man and the woman who had sex in the video.

While many netizens speculated that the viral clip was part of Uniqlo's publicity stunt, the Japanese clothing store has vehemently denied being involved.

Uniqlo also released a statement urging customers to use its changing rooms the "correct way" after the incident.
